Margaret Edith was the daughter of Catherine and Gottlieb
Beck. She was born in Turkey Creek Township, Kosciusko county, four miles east
of Syracuse Indiana on January 18, 1892.
She had eight years of common school education in the district school and
graduated from Syracuse high school with the class of 1911. She attended Goshen
Teacher's college in Goshen, Indiana, Tri-State College in Angola, Winona
Teacher's College at Winona Lake; and Blakey's Kindergarten College in
Indianapolis.
For seven years she was a successful teacher in the grade schools of Turkey
Creek township, and at the time of her marriage was teaching a second grade A
and B class in the Syracuse School.
She married Jesse O Covell on December 15, 1919. The simple and quiet wedding
was performed in the Methodist parsonage at Warsaw, Indiana. On March 15, 1920,
they began homemaking on a farm in Scott township, Steuben county. To their
marriage a total of 10 children were born (5 sons and daughters)! Nine of the
children were born on the farm and Lyman was born in Angola during the time the
family resided within the town.
Margaret had a busy life, always looking after her family and interested in
their activities. She lived to see her two sons, William and Walter serve their
country overseas for nearly three years and return home safely. It was her
ernest desire to live until all of her children graduated from high school
because she believed in education.
More later .... pending interviews of the 10 children.
